These baked apples are soft, warm, and filled with cinnamon, pecans, and raisins. A simple baked apples recipe made with Granny Smith apples and baked in a light citrus sauce.
Using an apple corer or melon baller, carefully remove the core of each apple without cutting all the way through the bottom so the filling stays inside.
In a bowl, mix the brown sugar, chopped pecans, raisins, cinnamon, salt, citrus zest, and vanilla.
Place the apples in a baking dish and fill each apple with the mixture, packing it gently to the top.
Place a small chunk of butter (about 10 g) on top of each apple.
Pour 1 cup water and 1/2 cup tangerine juice into the bottom of the baking dish. You can also spoon a little liquid inside each apple.
Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the apples are soft when pierced with a wooden skewer (can take longer depending on apple type and size). If the filling begins to brown too quickly, loosely cover the dish with parchment paper and continue baking.
Serve warm with the sauce from the pan, vanilla ice cream, and extra citrus zest if you like.
Notes
Cooking time can vary depending on the size and variety of apples. Some apples may take up to 10–15 minutes longerto become fully tender.Granny Smith apples work especially well for baked apples because their slightly tart flavor balances the sweetness of the filling.
